Guthrie
Lumber & Distribution Centers, Inc.
began as Guthrie Lumber Sales and the
company focused on the wholesale lumber business
in the early 1980's. As a family owned
business with attention to detail, and a corporate
culture in which business was built on trust and
one's word, the business prospered. Guthrie customer
base ranged from the local hardware
stores to the mega distributors and lumber dealers.
Bobbie Guthrie had begun his career buying
and selling lumber specializing in yellow pine. Working
directly with the mills, the Guthrie Family is
able to be highly competitive in the challenging
building materials market.
In time Guthrie has added other building products
which today includes a variety of lumber,
Geodeck Fiber Alternative, James Hardie Building
Products and specialty molding. The wholesale
lumber, lumber specialty products, Geodeck and HardiPlank
sales represent one of the Guthrie's
core businesses. The second major business that Guthrie
offers is its Transloading and Interim
Storage that serves the Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth
and Houston areas. Guthrie's three locations
are quite extensive and have the ability to accommodate
all types of rail cargo with outside and
warehouse storage.
One of the primary costs in the commodity lumber,
specialty lumber and construction material
products industries is transportation. To better
serve its major customer base, Guthrie expanded
its locations first with the addition of the Prosper
Facility for service of the Dallas Fort Worth
metroplex and more recently with its Houston location.
